Melodie Carter-Shaw

Executive Director of CAPPA

Melodie Carter-Shaw brings a wealth of leadership, management, and human services experience to her role as the new Executive Director of the Community Alliance for Progressive Positive Action (CAPPA). With a career spanning over two decades, Melodie has demonstrated a profound commitment to youth mentorship, community development, and academic support through her diverse professional background.

Previously serving as the Executive Director of The Campbell Street Inc., Family and Youth Center, Melodie spearheaded strategic initiatives that enhanced community engagement, secured sustainable funding, and fostered meaningful collaborations. Her leadership resulted in the development of robust programs that provided critical support to families and youth, aligning perfectly with CAPPA's mission. In addition to her administrative acumen, Melodie has extensive experience in counseling and therapy, having worked as a Drug and Alcohol Therapist with White Deer Outpatient Services and as a Contracted Therapist at Susquehanna House Inc. Her dedication to youth and her expertise in creating tailored treatment plans underscore her holistic approach to youth guidance and mentorship. Melodie holds a Master’s degree in Human Services from Lincoln University and is a PhD candidate at Capella University. She is also a Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor Diplomate, bringing a comprehensive understanding of youth behavioral health to her new role.

An active community leader, Melodie has served as the President of the Lycoming Tri-County NAACP and led the Juneteenth Committee, playing a pivotal role in revitalizing the Juneteenth celebrations in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Her far-reaching community impact is reflected in her dedicated service on the boards of, CILNCPA, Susquehanna Health and Dental Clinic, Kiwanis, and the Transitional Living Center. Her exceptional networking, leadership, and strategic planning skills will be instrumental in driving CAPPA’s mission forward, enriching the lives of the youth through academic support and the performing arts.
